According to the government, one fifth (20 percent) of the UK population is "disabled" - Our traditional understanding of disability focuses on those with visible impairments, such as people who are wheel chair users or people with visual impairments. However, there are actually 6 main impairment groups and many disabled people do not have visible impairments. Consider, for example, people with long term health conditions and people with learning difficulties.

Going on holiday for those with disabilities can be difficult, and the more information the visitor can have in advance regarding accessibility can make all the difference. Simple information such as knowing the width of doorways, the number of steps, or fixtures throughout the property will allow the visitor to make an informed choice of whether they will be able to manage to stay at the property - imagine the heartache of arriving at a holiday property only to find it's not suitable?

We, at British Holidays Direct, are very keen to bring the industry forward in promoting holiday accommodation that allows visitors with disabilities to find holiday accommodation that can accommodate their needs as best as possible, and to achieve this goal, we have introduced a new four tier system that allows filtering of search results to find appropriate accommodation:
