The East Anglia / Norfolk region
Sheringham is located in one of the driest parts of the UK. It was a small fishing town but increased in size with the arrival of the railway and with it Victorian Holiday makers. The town is largely unchanged and still welcomes large numbers of tourists drawn here by clean bathing water and a coastline designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is one of the few places where you can see the Sun rise and set over the sea.
Nearby to the West is Cley with its windmill and Blakeney with its small harbour, point and seal sanctuary. To the East is Cromer with its Victorian pier and Theatre. Finally to the South is Holt which is a small Georgian Market town with some superb shops.
There are three large stately homes in the area: Blickling Hall is a very good half day trip. Holkham hall along the coast to the West is great for a day out it has its own beach with miles of sand exposed at low tide. Finally a smaller hall at Felbrigg is well worth a visit.
The Sheringham area
Sheringham still has a few fishing boats which collect Crabs and Lobsters. These can be purchased from the two fish shops in town and make a superb meal. The town has benefited from the award of a EUROPEAN BLUE FLAG which among other things guarantees excellent bathing water quality. The beach is also life guarded during the summer months.
The North Norfolk Steam Railway is based in the town and runs Steam train trips along the coast to Weybourne and then inland over heathland and woods to Holt a Georgian market town which boasts some superb shops and Gresham's Independent school.
For the children there is the Splash indoor leisure pool with wave machine and slide, plus the Little Theatre which has a superb Panto at Christmas and smaller shows throughout the year.
