Waternish is the perfect holiday destination for hill walkers, mountain climbers, artists, writers, photographers, cyclists, whale watchers, birdwatchers, wildlife enthusiasts or simply for lovers of the great outdoors. Right from your doorstep you can explore a number of beautiful coastal, hill and forest walks. There are often sightings of a great variety of sea birds, golden eagle and, if you are lucky, a sea eagle - in addition to marine wildlife such as seals, dolphins, porpoise, whales and basking sharks.
Within a five minute drive is the historic hamlet of Stein. Here there are several places to eat and also boat trips.
Locally experience crafts such as the Skyeskyns sheepskin fleece tannery and showroom, Shilasdair Yarns, Halistra Pottery and Brae Fasach Gallery your days could be filled with discovering traditional skills.
Or you could take a tour round Waternish - brimming with history and interests including Dun Hallin (an ancient iron age hill fort), the ruins of Trumpan Church, scene of a great clan battle at Ardmore between the MacDonalds of Uist and the MacLeods of Dunvegan in 1578 or many fascinating walks such as the one through Waternish Forest down to the black coral shores of Score Bay.
Ardmore is also ideally situated for exploring slightly further afield to places such as Dunvegan Castle, home of the chieftain of the Clan MacLeod, the magnificent Cuillin mountains, Portree - the island's capital - or even for a day trip to the Outer Hebrides by ferry sailing from Uig.
