Bryn Aber Bach was originally a cowshed with overhead hayloft and an adjoining ‘one up one down’ farmworker’s cottage. Today it has a modern kitchen where the cows were once housed. This has an electric hob and oven, a microwave, fridge, counter-top freezer and washing machine. The kitchen is also the dinning space with a table seating four. A high-chair is available for a baby.
The living room has a huge, original, inglenook fireplace with a wood-burning stove. The stove is more a novelty than essential heating as the property has oil fired central heating and the walls are insulated with 75cm of foam under the plaster thus ensuring that the place is soon warm and cosy in winter. Heating and electricity are included in the rental. Two sofas provide ample seating and there is a small table and chairs for alternative eating . writing or game playing. There is a flatscreen tv with ‘Freeview’ and a DVD player. A selection of books and maps are provided.
Up the narrow staircase [please note for people with disablilities] there are two bedrooms. The main bedroom is spacious and has a kingsize bed. There is also a cot in this bedroom. The ensuite bathroom has a bath with shower attachments and screen, a washbasin and wc. Towels and bed linen are provided. The second bedroom has twin beds and the ensuite shower room has a washbasin and wc.
Outside to the rear is a patio garden area overlooking the churchyard and a wooded hill. There is a gas bbq and a table and four garden chairs. A washing line is provided.
Address : Bryn Aber Bach Llangybi Gwynedd
Zip / Postal code : LL53 6LZ
Llangybi is located among a mass of minor roads and lanes inland from Criccieth and Pwllheli -each about 4 miles away. Just behind Bryn Aber Bach and the local church, in a small valley, is St Gybi’s Well, reputed to have healing properties!
There are local cycle routes signposted and from Bryncir on the Porthmadog to Caernarvon road there is a dedicated cycle track built on the old railway line that will take you right into Caernarvon.
Pwllheli is a busy resort and sailing / windsurfing are popular pastimes with a junior saiing competition taking place each summer. There are popular beaches all along this coast ranging from the huge Blackrock Sands near Porthmadog to tiny sandy coves further round the Lleyn Peninsula.
If you are interested in historic buildings there are castles at Caernarvon, Criccieth and Harlech, several historic houses and of course the Italianate village at Porthmeirion.
Access to Snowdonia is easily achieved either via Tremadog to Beddgelert or Caernarvon to Llanberis. Ascent of Snowdon is achievable via footpaths from either side or, for the lazier amongst us, by train from Llanberis. The museum of the slate industry in Llanberis is an interesting place to visit. There are local walks from Llangybi and coastal footpaths as an alternative to the mountains.
Train enthusiasts will enjoy the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways from Porthmadog, the Llanberis Lakeside Railway and the Snowdon Mountan Railway which all have steam power most days.
