Stein Inn is the oldest Inn on the Isle of Skye dating back to at least 1790. Over the years we have upgraded it but still keeping true to its traditional inheritance. We have a very large range of 130 whiskies and are a whisky embassy. Through the summer we have 3 real ale taps alternating the best of Scottish beers. We are very proud to continuously achieve a high mark for the quality of the service of our beer from Cask Marque. We also offer a number of wines by the glass.
The Inn is a very popular place for traditional pub food, especially in the evening, sourcing most of its ingredients from Skye or the Highlands. The most popular dish is Battered Haddock in Angus' own recipe for batter. We serve some local shellfish and fresh fish. There is always vegetarian options and a children's menu.
Lunch is bar snacks and light lunches featuring crab sandwiches (you have to get here early for these), smoked or flaked salmon, and various, toasties, sandwiches and baked potatoes.
The area of Waternish also offers some very interesting visitor attractions and craft shops. We are only a few minutes walk from Scotland's only working tannery at SkyeSkyns, a five star visitor attraction and well worth a visit. There is also a dye house and shop called Shilasdair, Dandelion Designs, Braefasach Studio (ceramics) and Halistra Pottery.
If you must go elsewhere for some food then we are only yards from Lochbay sea food Restaurant and 20 minutes from the renowned Three Chimneys restaurant.
When the weather permits there are fabulous boat trips from Stein with Diver's Eye Boat Trips. They also operate a dive centre although mainly for groups. The waters around here are said to be incredibly clear.
Locally there are a number of fairly easy walks with stunning views and the possibility of unusual wildlife. A bit further afield there are some amazing coastal walks and of course the rugged Cuillin, 'the Scottish Alps'.
When the weather is right, we can have some incredible sunsets particularly during the Spring or the Summer when the position of the sun is in the right place. When the nights grow longer then Waternish can be an ideal area to see Dark Skies due to the lack of light pollution. Due to the likely sun spot activity, the next few years may be an excellent time to see the Northern Lights.
