Gower Salthouses comprises two properties - Tŷ Hyfryd and Tŷ Cefn - in Crofty, Gower. They are two distinct properties, each with its own front and back garden, garage and parking for several cars. However, they can be booked together for a larger, family holiday.
We offer generous discounts for “two people only” bookings, even at the height of the season. It is possible to book a week, or a short break, from Fridays or Mondays, so many of our guests stay for ten days, incorporating a double weekend. Again, there are discounts for the longer lets.
Sorry! No pets and No smoking.
Accommodation
Tŷ Hyfryd has 4 bedrooms – a King double room, a twin, and two single bedrooms. The living room (with log burning stove) and kitchen/dining room both have French doors opening onto the patio, with great views of Llanrhidian Marsh and the Loughor Estuary beyond. There is a 2 storey children’s Playhouse in the garden. Our visitors enjoy watching the ponies, sheep, birds, rising tides and night skies from the Tŷ Hyfryd telescope.
Tŷ Cefn has 2 bedrooms – a King and a twin room. A gate from the secluded back garden leads to the lane beside the Marsh. The garden furniture includes several reclining chairs.
The kitchens in both properties are equipped to the highest standard, making it possible to provide elaborate dining, or just an elegant way to eat an Indian meal delivered to the door! Tŷ Hyfryd has a dishwasher, and both properties have a washing machine, tumble dryer, fridge, freezer, oven, hob, microwave, toaster, steamer, electric whisks etc. Flat screened TVs, DVD players, Radios, CD players, hairdryers, all linen, towels, travel cot, high chair, books, games and maps are provided. Crofty:
The village of Crofty has a useful shop and post office, a good pub serving meals (The Crofty Inn), a Chapel, tennis courts and a children’s playground. It is famous for its cockles, whilst the sheep wandering the Marsh become the renowned Saltmarsh lamb. The wild marsh ponies often graze beside Tŷ Hyfryd’s garden gate. A quiet lane leads along the Marsh to Llanrhidian, where there are various pubs and the Welcome to Town Bistro. There are some fine restaurants within only a short distance of Crofty, whilst for busy families nearby Penclawdd offers takeaway Chinese and Indian meals and the Gower Sole Fish bar.
Local attractions:
Gower Salthouses are on the Gower Explorer bus route, leading straight to some beautiful beaches. The buses are also ideal for walkers, who can plan routes between different locations, and then walk home. There is direct access to Swansea and the University, without need for a car. In Swansea are to be found all the facilities of a vibrant city – theatres, cinemas, museums, concert halls, bowling, swimming pools and shops, plus many features unique to Swansea, such as the Waterfront Museum, the Dylan Thomas trail and Plantasia.
Some of our guests have caught the Heart of Wales train from Gowerton, thus exploring the hinterland of Wales, whilst others have made good use of the local cycle tracks, riding alongside the beach to Mumbles, or on the Millennium path, completely off road from the Penclacwydd Wetlands Centre to the Pembrey Country Park and almost to Kidwelly Castle, (Part of the Sustrans route)
Our garage storage facility and outdoor hoses make Gower Salthouses an ideal location for Cyclists, whilst we have (Peter has!) a detailed knowledge of local mountain biking routes in Gower and the Mountain biking centres in Brechfa and Afan Argoed Forest Park. Just ask!
It is easy to get back to the M4 from Crofty, so a range of attractions beyond Gower can be incorporated into a holiday. Try the National Botanic Gardens, Oakwood Park, the Museum of Welsh Life, Dan yr Ogof Caves, and Big Pit just for starters.
Gower itself abounds in activities like pony trekking, surfing, archery, paragliding, hang gliding and mountain boarding. There are beautiful beaches and fabulous walks, and plenty of places away from the tourist areas, even in the height of summer. We look after Gower Salthouses ourselves and would be pleased to help any of our guests with advice or arrangements.
