The closest town to Overstrand is Cromer which can be reached by walking on the beach, a cliff walk by the lighthouse or by bus! Of course, a local bus or car is less strenuous but less scenic!
Cromer is a charming town with many unique shops in narrow lanes, tea rooms, a cinema, church, supermarkets (Morrisons and Budgens), railway station, sports centre and its own Royal Cromer Golf Club. Cromer Pier is famous for its End of Pier shows and it is well worth a look around the new lifeboat station. In town, next to Cromer Church is the newly opened Cromer Museum. Just past the pier heading towards Overstrand on the beach is the Henry Blogg Lifeboat Museum where you can also get lunch overlooking the sea in the popular Rocket Cafe.
Sheringham is around five miles away, a popular seaside resort that sports its own golf club perched above the cliff tops and has been the venue for several English Ladies Championships. Even if you do not play golf, the area on the cliffs is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and boosts magnificent views of the sea. The Poppy Line is a popular attraction where you can get an authentic steam train ride from Sheringham to Holt; it passes through Weybourne and alongside Sheringham Park famous for its vibrant rhododendrons and azaleas. Holt is a historic Georgian Town that many locals head to for a bit of retail therapy, the food hall in Baker & Larner's is often referred to as a small Fortnum & Masons.
Further along the A149 coastal road is Salthouse and Cley next the Sea which is an internationally renowned area for birdwatchers across the salt marshes. Still further on is Marston and Blakeney Quays where you can get local boats all year round to the local colony of over 400 common and grey seals that inhabit a small island. Close to Blakeney is Langham that once stationed over 2000 service personnel during World War II with of course a popular pub The Bluebell that also houses memorabilia of that era.
So whether you prefer the coastline or the countryside a stay in Overstrand will have something for you.
