Greenah Crag, Troutbeck

Greenah Crag is a former 17th century farmhouse, nestling in the lee of a small rocky crag from which it takes its name. Tastefully modernised, and with a later Victorian addition, it is fully centrally heated and double glazed. There is a separate guests' sitting room with woodburning stove, a cosy place to relax on a chilly evening after a day on the fells. Both bedrooms, one double and the other double or twin, have ensuite bathrooms with showers over the bath. Generous hosptality trays are provided. A great traditional breakfast is served in the oak beamed dining room. We serve home made bread and marmalade, local Cumberland sausage and bacon, but we do cater for vegetarians, too. There is good off road parking (we are half a mile from a public road at the end of a concrete farm track shared with two neighbouring farms), and a bike lock up if required. We can dry wet clothing overnight, though for a lot of gear we may make a small charge. Guests are free to roam over the adjoining 6 acres of fell and over the Crag, which is an SSSI for its rare geology. Views from the Crag, especially sunsets can be stunning in good weather conditions. Wildlife is varied, and red squirrels and a variety of birds take advantgae of the feeders just outside the breakfast room window.
