Address : Henllys Lodge, Cilycwm, Llandovery, Carmarthenshire
Zip / Postal code : SA20 0EW
In the area Carmarthenshire has fantastic landscapes and lots to see and do and is known as 'the Garden of Wales'. There are gardens and nature parks, castles, houses, forests and hills to look at and explore, either on foot, by bike, by train or car.
Llandovery is a traditional Welsh market town in the Upper Towy (Twyi) valley, bounded by three rivers. Its name means 'church amidst the waters'. It has a historical heritage dating back to Roman times, was an important drovers’ town and it has ruins of a Norman castle and also churches and some fine Georgian houses. The striking statue of Llywelyn ap Gruffydd Fychan, a supporter of Owain Glyndwr's struggle for Welsh independence, stands by the castle ruins.
It is served by Llandovery Station on the 'Heart of Wales' line. Close by are Cilycwm, Rhandirmawn and Llyn Brianne Reservoir which are beautiful places to walk, cycle or drive. Stop off at the Dinas RSPB Nature Reserve for a stunning walk along the river and through alder and oak bluebell woodland. Brecfa and Crychan Forests offer woodland and waterfall walks and mountain biking paths.
Myddfai (approx 3 miles away) is now the Welsh residence of the Prince Charles, Prince of Wales. The 'Physicians of Myddfai' from medieval times became renowned for herbal remedies and they are also associated with the local legend of the Lady of the Lake Llyn-y-Fan Fach.
The house is at the western edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, an area of special landscape, wildlife and cultural heritage, and Fforest Fawr Geopark, the area designated in 2005 by UNESCO because of its outstanding geological heritage. The 'Heart of Wales' Railway line offers the opportunity to see some spectacular scenery including the Cynghordy Viaduct.
Not far away are the ruinous abbeys of Strata Florida and Talley, both founded in the 12th century. The town of Llandeilo is also very attractive with more upmarket shops, cafes and restaurants. There are many castles - in Llandeilo there’s Dinefyr Castle - and our favourite - Carreg Cennen Castle - one of the most dramatic fortresses on top of a limestone crag and with fantastic views. Aberglasney Gardens and the National Botanic Gardens of Wales are essential visits for all those who love gardens. Dolaucothi Roman Gold Mines (National Trust), the only Roman goldmine in Wales, is another fascinating visit for all those interested in history.

Access to the property is via 4 steps from a tarmacked road or stoned pathway from the tarmacked parking area. There are two steps from the front door into the property and two steps also from the back door to a slate tiled terrace. There is a level stoned path around the front and sides of the property. The garden has a lawn which slopes gently downwards. There is a pond at the bottom of the garden, where the edges are not delineated, so care would need to be taken by those with limited mobility or visual impairment.
The downstairs rooms are open-plan and it is easy to manoeuvre around furniture and furnishings for those with mobility difficulties or visual impairment. There is a downstairs WC. People with restricted mobility, who can manage stairs, will find all rooms accessible. Wheelchair users will find the ground floor accessible, but not the first floor. There should be no difficulties for people with hearing impairment. The ensuite wetrooms have mosaic tiled floors which are generally non-slip, but there are also slip mats in them for extra safety. There are no handrails. The bathroom has a slip mat which can be used in the bath. There is a non slip wooden mat on the floor by the bath. There are no handrails. There is a glass door across the bottom half of the bath where there is also an overhead shower.
