In the small secluded township of Waterstein in the northwest of Skye lies Kelpie cottage. This delightful cottage has recently been beautifully converted to offer spacious accommodation of the highest quality for couples. Overlooking Loch Mor and is within walking distance of Neist Point Lighthouse, this location is one of the many all inspiring parts of Skye.
With the magnificent sea cliffs, over looking the Outer Isles, and its beautiful sunsets, Golden Eagles, whales, Basking Sharks, otters, and so much more, Kelpie Cottage is the perfect place to get away from it all, to experience the magic of Eilean a Cheo, The Misty Isle.
Newly completed in 2009, the accommodation comprises a large entrance hall, open plan kitchen/living room, double bedroom and tiled bathroom.

KITCHEN: Open plan, tiled floor and walls and well equipped with an electric hob, fan wall oven, washing machine, dishwasher, Belfast sink, under bench fridge freezer, microwave and butchers block.
LIVING ROOM: Wool carpets throughout with leather settee, captains chair, window seats, colour T.V, DVD, video player with a selection of films & documentaries. A dining table & chairs to enjoy a romantic meal before snuggling down in front of a coal effect fire with the lights dimmed low.
BATHROOM: Fully tiled, light and airy with a freestanding bath and separate shower.
BEDROOM: Containing King size bed with dressing table, large wardrobe and freestanding cheval mirror.

WATERSTEIN;The most westerly point in Scotland, Kelpie cottage is only a 20 minute walk from Neist Point Lighthouse,here you can see Minky whales, basking sharks,dolphins,seals and otters aswell as the huge number of nesting sea birds,Waterstein head is home to a pair of Golden eagles,often spotted soaring above the cottage..We have some beautiful local walks,perfect for an evening stroll,Stunning cliff top walks, viewing over to the Outer Isles or Rum and Canna,A walk around Loch Mor infront of Kelpie cottage, here you may be lucky to see the family of otters at play.Waterstein and Millovaig Heads are only a short distance from the cottage.The sunsets on a summers evening are magnificent.The cottage is set in half an acrea of mature well kept gardens with a natural stream and pond for you to enjoy.
We have some of the best museums in the area, croft museums, the famous Toy Museum,where you can play with toys from yesteryear, black houses, Glendale Watermill,with lots of info about the area displayed in the local community hall.We are 7 miles from the Three Chimneys Restaurant, rated in the top 5 in the world, it is essental that you pre-book.The Old School house and many more are 10 miles in Dunvegan, Dunvegan castle home of the Fairy Flag and gardens is well worth a visit as are the Coral beeches, close by.Waterstein has 2 secluded beeches of its own, only a short walk from the cottage.We also have some of the best fishing the island has to offer and fishing trips can also be arranged. Every tuesday we hold a craft market in the hall in Glendale,here we sell a wide range of hand made goods and crafts. I also have a well stocked workshop and I am more than happy to share my skills with you.
Waterstein is a beautiful area and you will never be bored nor will you fit everything in, in one visit, and you'll want to come back time and time again.
Entrance to the cottage;
We have only one entrance to the cottage, there are no steps either inside or out, a small ramp leads to the door outside. The entrance door is side hung, made from solid wood with our Kelpie (Waterhorse) carved into the door. Minimum aperture width is 90cm.Inside the front door is the entrance hall measuring 155 cm wide by x 340 cm long. This floor is tiled. And heated by an oil filled wall mounted radiator, thermostatically controlled. There is ample coat hanging space and space for outdoor footwear. Also in the hall is a large press and small cupboard containing Hoover, cleaning equipment, emergency lighting and electric metre. All electric and heating is included in the rent. All rooms are heated with thermostat controlled radiators which allow you to control your own heat, however we would appreciate if you would turn heating down when it becomes too hot rather than opening windows and wasting electric. Inside the press are 3 recycling bags to use for paper, glass and tins and under the kitchen sink is a compost bin for scraps, peelings etc. When it’s full please leave it outside the cottage and we will empty it into our worm bin. We also have a blue bin outside to recycle plastics and cardboard. Opposite the entrance door is the bathroom, to the left is the bedroom and to the right the kitchen / lounge.
Self-catering kitchen;
The kitchen is open plan with the lounge. Sharing 2 windows with window seats and 2 velox windows in the roof. This makes it very light, airy and spacious. The kitchen has tiled walls and floor with a granite topped butchers block in the middle. With a height of 84 cm. This is not a fixed unit and can be moved if you require more space. Fully fitted wooden kitchen units comprise of 2 double, 2 single and 1 corner wall units. Height of wall units from the floor are 141 cm. Each unit has 3 shelves in them allowing plenty of room for the cream porcelain and stone wear crockery, and for all your own food. The base units (apart from a corner unit which has all the baking and cooking bowls as well as some of the electrical equipment in it,) house the machines. A fridge with separate freezer, 4 drawer unit for cutlery and towels, fan assisted oven with grill and hob, Belfast sink, 85 cm. high, slimline dishwasher and washing machine. Above the cooker is an extractor fan. The worktops are 89 cm from the floor. The kitchen is well lit with 4 spotlights in the ceiling and under unit lights beside the cooker. Spot lights are on a dimmer switch. A fire blanket and extinguisher are easy accessible min. space of 56 cm from the washing machine and 110 cm from the cooker are between the butchers block, this can be moved allowing a max. Space of 120 cm if extra space is required. (Pans & oven dishes are stored here.). To the side of the kitchen stands a wooden press with more crockery on, and in the drawers are tablemats as well as a collection of jigsaws and games stored in the bottom cupboards. A small collection of cookery books stand on the shelf above the window. Also provided in the kitchen are microwave oven, sandwich maker, toaster, kettle, electric whisk and blender, deep fat fryer and juicer; a well equipped kitchen for all your needs.
Lounge:
Open plan with the kitchen allows you to share all your time, The lounge is heated with wall mounted electric radiator as well as an electric ornamental coal effect fire enclosed in a beautiful wooden surround, with our Kelpies carved on either side. A two seater leather sofa and a wooden captains chair with arms are provided as well as a table and two chairs in front of a window to enable you to dine and enjoy the scenery at the same time. Colour T.V, DVD and Video recorder with a small supply of videos and DVDs are available for your use. A tall bookcase with a collection of books and maps for you to use are also supplied, (inc. walking books). A MPD, mini hi fi for CDs with radio and MPS connection is provided. The lounge also has a corner unit with wine rack. It is lit with hanging candle electric dimmer lights and standard floor reading lamp. The rooms are very light throughout the day both winter and summer with the 2 velux roof lights as well as the 2 wooden windows (these are also fire escapes) The floor is covered in a luxury wool carpet. With a fireside rug.
Master bedroom.
The bedroom has a king-sized bed measuring 200cm x 163 cm. made up for your arrival. The mattress is 55 cm from the floor. Luxury bedding is used with plenty of pillows and cushions. On either side of the bed are double sockets, reading lamps stand on either set of drawer tables and an extra light switch enabling you to switch off the ceiling lights are also at either side of the bed. All furniture throughout is made from solid wood, a large wardrobe, with plenty of hanging space and shoe rack also holds an ironing board, iron and clothes airer, a dressing table and mirror with a floor lamp beside it to give you extra light when needed, with a stool underneath. We also have a full-length cheval mirror measuring 104 cm, the unit stands 187 cm high. It like the dressing table has drawers underneath, giving you a lot of extra space. Suitcases can be stored on top of the wardrobe during your stay. Luxury wool carpets cover the floor with our own sheepskins on either side of the bed. Here on Skye we don’t have any light pollution, which is why we have fitted a velux window in the roof enabling you to lie in bed on a clear night and watch the stars, pure magic.
Bathroom and w.c.
Access from the hallway, the bathroom door like all the other interior doors have a width of 80cm , the bathroom door is fitted with an interior bolt. This luxurious bathroom has fully tiled walls and non slip tiled floor with recessed glass shelves above the sink with shaving socket and light, and another set of shelves along side and also above the toilet, giving lots of space for your personal items, The height of the toilet is 43 cm from the floor .We have a separate shower cubicle measuring 72 cm x 72 cm with electric shower and shelves for soap, shampoo etc. The roll top bath measures 169 cm x 77 cm, and 63 cm high from the floor. With central mixer taps and hand held showerhead, along side is a small set of shelves for your shampoo’s etc. We have provided non-slip mats for both shower and bath if required. An ample supply of luxury white towels are also provided, and dressing gowns. The sink with separate hot and cold taps is 83 cm from the floor, the bathroom is lit with 2 separate lights one of which is above the shower and also an extractor fan switching on automatically with light switch. The room is heated by a heated towel rail as well as an electric fan wall heater. It also has a velux window in the ceiling making it a lovely bright room throughout the day.
