Kidwelly Bed & Breakfast
Because the accommodation is on the first floor of the building and we do not have a stair lift we regret that our accommodation is unsuitable for wheelchair users who are unable to climb the stairs.
1) TRANSPORT AND LOCATION. Ordnance Survey grid reference: SN 408 066
Buses - There are regular local buses to Llanelli (approximately 10 miles), Carmarthen (approximately 12 miles) and further afield with a main stop in the town centre.
Rail - Kidwelly railway station is on the West Wales Line. We are happy to pick guests up from the station by prior arrangement and for wedding guests and people attending local parties we offer transport to the event free of charge.
Walkers, Cyclists and Bird Watchers – the National Cycle Network goes through Kidwelly and we often have guests who are walking the coastal paths of Wales. We are happy to pick up/drop off walkers/cyclists and/or their luggage to enable them to travel without encumbrance (mainly free of charge, but it depends on the mileage involved). We have a drying room and lockable garaging for bikes.
2) PRIVATE PARKING
The tarmac car park is 16 metres x 16 metres and will take 8 cars comfortably.
It is lit by a sensor flood light and a lamp post is situated halfway along the entrance. Cars can stop at the top of a gentle ramp leading to the B & B guest entrance door which is lit by a sensor light.
We assist all our guests by offering to carry their luggage between their car and their room.
3) CLEAR SIGNAGE
There is a wrought iron sign attached to the front of the house which states “CYDWELI B & B 01554 890716” and a flat wrought iron sign to the right of the front door which states “62 - CYDWELI B & B”.
There is a wrought iron sign on a tall post at the entrance to the right of way which states “CYDWELI B & B CARPARK”.
The front door opens directly onto the pavement and is lit by two street lights. At the front door there is a glass panel with emergency lighting which is permanently on. There is a shallow gulley forming a slight step into the front doorway.
4) FACILITIES
There is a ground floor unisex disabled toilet with wash hand basin, support rails and emergency pulls. There is also a drying room with sink.
5) DINING & SITTING ROOM.
There is a ramp going down to the dining room where breakfast is served and the stairs are open plan from here.
Guests are welcome to bring in take away’s and similar and have full use of the dining room, crockery and cutlery. We do ask that guests don’t eat take away’s and other hot food in their room.
6) BREAKFAST.
There are three tables which can be moved to suit and seats can be placed at all four sides of the tables. Seats with arms can be provided on request. The area is well lit with halogen lights, pendant lights, wall lights and windows
The menu can be supplied in large print on request or read out to guests.
Cereals, fruit juice, yoghurts, fruit and a full cooked breakfast are always available and menus for alternative hot choices are in the folder in each bedroom.
A cold breakfast can be served in the bedroom on request.
Breakfast 6.30am - 11.00
The stairs to the first floor have two turns with a small Landing at each and are well lit from above by a five bulb pendant light controlled from both the foot and the top of the stairs. There is a handrail to the right of the stairs and the carpet to the stairs and throughout is light coloured.
7) EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
The emergency instructions are written in large font and are in the folder in the bedroom which will be pointed out to every guest. There are smoke detectors in every room and an automatic fire alarm will sound if they are triggered. The emergency route is down the stairs and through the guest front door. The emergency lights over the front and back guest door are on permanently and in the event of the alarms going off the way out is illuminated by emergency lights on the ceiling (which are small green lights when not on fully)
The alternative route is through the fire escape window in bedroom four onto a flat roof and down into a yard with a gate opening onto the back. In the event of a fire guests are asked to assemble in the car park so that we can quickly see that everyone is accounted for.
8) WELL LIT, WARM BEDROOMS AND EN-SUITES.
The bedrooms are well lit with windows, overhead lights controlled from beside the door and bedside lights on each headboard which can be reached from in bed. All sockets are at a raised height to comply with the regulations for the disabled. The flooring is light coloured carpet, with under floor heating and the walls are easy clean colour washed.
Bedrooms 1, 2 and 4 have an en-suite shower room. Bedroom three has an en suite bathroom with over bath shower and handles on the bath. These all have under floor heating, non slip easy clean flooring and are all well lit with illuminated mirrors and shaver points over the wash basins. Taps are single lever and easy to operate. Each thermostatically controlled shower is separately lit with clear shower safety glass screens and sliding doors. There is an extractor fan in each en suite.
Rubber mats are available for showers and the bath and are located on the landing, as is a fridge for medication, fresh milk and local water which is soft and lovely for drinking.
All sheets, towels and tiles are white for additional cleanliness.
The beds are all thousand pocket individual springs, plus luxury polyester cotton toppers with percale sheets, lightweight blankets and a quilted cover. We harvest the rain water from the roofs and use it to flush the toilets and feed the washing machines.
