The Isle of Berneray is located in the Western Isles and is situated between North Uist and Harris. There is a causeway linking Berneray to North Uist and a ferry service connection to Harris. Berneray is approximately 3 ½ miles long and 2 mile wide.
The beautiful west beach is 3 miles of unspoilt sand. Its length gives the impression of a never ending beach which is washed by the clear waters of the Atlantic.
On the cockle beach mussels, cockles, razor fish and winkles can be found at low tides.
In Bays loch a colony of grey seals and common seals can be observed from the seal viewing point. If you are lucky enough otters are occasionally seen along the shore line. Various sea birds including herons, oystercatchers, fulmars and cormorants are also seen along the shore. On nearby Loch Brusda mute swans and geese can be seen in the summer months and in the winter barnacle swans come to stay.
