Within 30 minute walk of the cottages is the ancient stone circle and toll house at Stanton Drew and Maes Knoll Tump an iron age hill-fort from which there are panoramic views of Bristol, The Severn Bridge/Estuary as well as the Chew Valley with it's lakes!

The village of Chew Magna (5 min drive,25 min walk) is our very attractive local centre, and has an interesting history. It was once a thriving woollen centre, it has raised pavements and many listed buildings, from pretty cottages to large Georgian houses and medieval buildings.
Chew Magna has 3 pubs all serving good food, a good village food store, a traditional butcher, 2 banks, a post office/gift shop and a cafe/gift shop, and is an excellent place to wander and explore.
Chew Valley Lake (2.5 miles) along with it's sister lakes are very popular with anglers and birdwatchers, with over 260 types of birds have been recorded there, the restaurant and picnic facilities at Chew Valley and Blagdon Lakes provide a lovely setting for refreshment perhaps followed by a walk along a waterside trail.
