Outside, south-facing large sunny riverside garden, fully fenced, for your private use. Outdoor furniture for al-fresco eating and comfy reclining chairs for basking on the lawn. Deep borders with flowering shrubs and herbaceous perennials, and eggs to buy for breakfast from free-range hens.
Thirteen acres of woods, meadows and further lawns to enjoy in a tranquil, traffic-free valley just a few minutes' drive from the beach. Walks from your cottage door along green lanes round the valley or further afield, to the Coast Path. A five minute drive from Slapton with its dog-friendly pubs and long dog-friendly beach, and the National Nature Reserve at Slapton Ley.
Quack Cottage is great for free-range kids - woods to build dens in and make bows & arrows, a shallow stream to play in or dam, and float home-made boats on. A small stone bridge for pooh sticks. Trees to climb, and a whole valley to explore.
Adults can fish for small brown trout in the stream, or relax and watch the birdlife - there's a real-life nature channel right outside your door. Kingfishers, dippers, buzzards, herons, badgers, weasels and, if you're lucky, otters. In summer, fireflies in the green lanes and hedgerows filled with wild flowers. And stargazing is heavenly thanks to our lack of light pollution.
Quack Cottage is one of five comfy, historic stone cottages, all pet-friendly, set around the 18th century former watermill and stream at Watermill Cottages - see our website for further photos, availability and floor plans www.watermillcottages.co.uk.
Each cottage is individual and cosy, with thick stone walls, slate sills, a logburner, its own washing machine and well-equipped kitchen. Each sleeps from 2-4, with Crownwheel Cottage sleeping up to 6 or 7 in good-sized bedrooms.
All have a private fenced garden (Mill Cottage has a flower-filled patio in the courtyard) with outdoor furniture, and you are welcome to enjoy the large riverside shared lawn with additional seating.
