Teignmouth & Shaldon could reasonably be described as the jewel in Devon's crown, because they are absolutely unique, offering so very much as holiday destinations.
Teignmouth is a delightful unspoilt holiday town nestling at the mouth of the river Teign. It has a wonderful sandy beach with a long level promenade which boasts one of the few remaining Piers in England. There are excellent local facilitieis including heated swimming pool, indoor sports centre, tennis, mini-golf, childrens play park, horse riding, sea fishing/river trips, sailing etc. The culture of continental sytle open air cafes is very much part of living here, and there is often live music to be enjoyed and of course Teignmouth hosts an annual Jazz Festival in November.
Shaldon is a lovely waterside village just across the river, reached by passenger ferry or a stroll across the bridge. Enjoy the quaint houses, village bowling green, shops, hotels, restaurants and inns - some adjacent to the beach. Leisure activities here include fishing, gig racing and boating of all types. The village boasts fun for all with two annual sailing events, the regatta and the water carnival. There is a golf course and several golf clubs nearby.
Within easy reach is historical Exeter, Dartmouth, bustling Torquay (follow the Agatha Christie Trail)and peaceful Dartmoor.
