This well restored and attractive cottage, located in the heart of the National Park was originally the old barns for Tylegarw Farm and was converted from a traditional long tithe barn predating 1745. Heron Cottage is regularly maintained in order to provide a high standard of comfort & practicality.
During the renovation, the original oak beams and low roof rafters were exposed and retained together with tall narrow lancet windows in keeping with the character and period of the building. The grounds are enclosed on three sides by the meandering River Senni, there is a wealth of wildlife with buzzards, herons and red kite wheeling overhead, whilst the farm has sheep grazing in the fields.
For those wishing to take advantage of the outdoor activities, caving, abseiling, horse riding, not to mention walking, are close by. For more inclement days there are the show caves at Dan-yr-Ogof and the facilities of the Brecon Beacons National Park.
Heron cottage sleeps 4 people. It has 1 double room and 1 twin room, both with exposed beams. There is a bathroom with bath & shower. (Linen and towels are provided.)
Downstairs, the lounge and dining area are open-plan, both with exposed beams & original stonework. The separate kitchen is compact but well equipped with cooker, fridge, microwave, utensils etc.
From the lounge, patio doors lead to a lawned garden, which has a picnic bench and uninterrupted views. Birds of prey, particularly red-kites & buzzards are a common site.
