Sgeir Mhaol is a family-run guest house whose name, pronounced 'Sgeir Vole', meaning in gaelic 'A Bare Rock', is derived from that of a lighthouse with a family connection off the Isle of Jura.
The house is conveniently situated at the southern end of Oban on the Campbeltown road, yet only 5 minutes walk from the town centre, bus, boat and train terminals.
Open all year, Sgeir Mhaol has a spacious private car park within the grounds.
Both the dining room and lounge overlook a pleasant front garden, and together with the bedrooms are all on the ground floor. The house is centrally heated throughout.
Our breakfast menu has a variety of choices including a traditional full Scottish breakfast.
Bedrooms comprise double, twin and family accommodation, all colour co-ordinated and furnished to a high standard of comfort, with colour television, tea/coffee makers, shaver points etc. Most rooms also have en suite facilities, and are non-smoking. All rooms have mini fridges, fans and electronic safes.
We have two self catering flats 100 yards from Sgeir Mhaol that will are now available for holiday lets. Bookings are now being taken.

There is a garden to the front and to the rear of the building and parking for three cars. Bed linen will be included in the cost but electricity will be a payment meter which will be full on arrival (£20). Guests are required to refill this on departure.

The town of Oban is known as the "Gateway to the Isles"
Attractions in Oban include the Waterfront Centre, the Cathedral of St Columba, the Oban Distillery, Dunollie Castle, Dunstaffnage Castle and McCaig's Tower, which dominates the town's skyline.
Oban occupies a beautiful setting in the Firth of Lorn. Oban Bay is a near perfect horseshoe bay, protected by the island of Kerrera, and beyond Kerrera is Mull. To the north is the long low island of Lismore, and the mountains of Morvern and Ardgour.
Daily boat trips operate from the harbour just a 10 minute walk from the accommodation. There is also a James Braid 18 hole golf course situated within a 5 minute walk from Sgeir Mhaol. Atlantis Leisure, the Sea Life Centre and the Atlantic Bridge at Easdale are all within a short drive. There are various forest walks and cycling routes in the area as well as horse riding, kayaking and seafari adventures.
