From the cottage there are superb coastal walks. A mile away is Tintagel, which has a ruined castle (King Arthur's?) on the headland. Golf, a leisure centre (including heated swimming pool) and riding can be found at Camelford (small town, pubs, shops, restaurant on the River Camel), 6 miles. Trout fishing and bird watching at Crowdy reservoir near Camelford situated within the Bodmin Moor Site of Special Scientific Interest. There are great sand/surf beaches at Polzeath, Trebarwith, Widemouth Bay, Bude, and Sandy Mouth; sandy coves at Port Gaverne, Bossiney, Crackington Haven, Duckpool, and others less accessible; Rock, also sandy, is the place for watersports, including sailing on the Camel estuary.A ferry operates to Padstow, where Rick Stein's cuisine may be sampled at his restaurants. Port Isaac is very pretty round its cliff-enclosed harbour and there are mini-fjords at Port Quin and Boscastle. Boscastle is a famous village (pubs, award-winning restaurant) where two rivers meet the sea in a natural harbour between steep moorland hillsides, lovely cliff and wooded-valley walks.
The Camel trail cycleway (well worth riding) goes from Bodmin to Padstow via Wadebridge(bikes are for hire.)Roughtor, Bodmin Moor's second highest hill is a good walk. Not far away is Blisland, one of Cornwall's prettiest villages. Not far to Eden.
