This is a wonderful area for outdoor activities - the Torridon Mountains are on our doorstep and Loch Shieldaig is at the bottom of the garden. The pier opposite the house gives easy access to the water and boat trips are run from here by Torridon Sea Tours. Much of the Torridon area is owned by the National Trust for Scotland and the Countryside centre is a good source of information. Walks range from easy low level strolls to Munros. The wildlife in the area is exceptional - having the local sea eagle fly a few feet above me while out in a canoe was an un-nerving experience - it has an 8 foot wing span! Otters play on the pier and seals are always around. There are many easy day trips - Gairloch has lovely beaches and many attractions including the world famous Inverewe Gardens, a visit to the remote village of Applecross over the Bealach na Ba pass (the highest road in Britain) is a must and Skye is only an hour away. Golf is available in Lochcarron and Gairloch.
