Situated lass than half a mile off the A9 coastal road The Crossburn offers easy access to country and coastal walks, local golf courses and famous landmarks such as John O'Groats and the Castle of Mey (the late Queen Mother's private home). Vehicle and pedestrian ferries to the Orkney Islands are within 40 minutes drive. Visitors in late July and early August can also enjoy the Highland Games held in both Halkirk and Mey. The area has a number of harbours, the largest at Wick (once home to the biggest herring fleet in Europe)also features boat trips along the rugged coastline. 30 minutes crive away is Thurso with it's world famous surfing beach (one of the locations for the world championships)
