For a century Felixstowe has been a popular, peaceful resort for family holidays - boasting record hours of sunshine and one of the lowest rainfall levels in the country.

That is not to say the town has not changed in the past 100 years. It still retains its predominantly Victorian and Edwardian character, but with a mix of modern buildings and attractions. Felixstowe is situated at the coastal tip of a flat peninsula bordered by the Rivers Orwell and Deben and the North sea, with the county town of Ipswich on its northern inland edge. The peninsula features wide expanses of top-quality farmland, acres of golden corn patrolled by soaring birds swooping for food, and is dotted with pretty villages on the banks of the rivers - such as Levington, Nacton, Waldringfield and the tiny village of Hemley.
Felixstowe itself is a thriving town - mainly due to its port, Britain's biggest and busiest container terminal - which welcomes visitors from home and abroad. Its five-mile coastline features one of the country's most important coastal nature reserves, tranquil sandy beaches, a fishing village, and a bustling seafront with all the attractions expected of a seaside holiday.

Its charming seafront gardens regularly win awards and Britain in Bloom accolades, its weather is unchanged, and it has been enhanced by the addition of a modern leisure centre, water sports facilities, funfair and arcades, a theatre and a wide range of accommodation - guest houses, hotels and holiday parks - restaurants and shops.
