Next door to a working farm, our lovely, wisteria-clad, oak-beamed, stone farm-house B and B dates from 1714. We're five miles south of Clun, famous for the Clun Green Man and the Clun Beer festivals, and four miles from the Welsh border town of Knighton. Ludlow, well known for its Food Festival, is only fifteen miles away. Leintwardine, an ancient Roman military base where the rivers Clun and Teme join, is only a few miles away just inside Herefordshire, as are Lingen and Aymestrey. If you’re walking through Knighton along the Offa’s Dyke path we can arrange for you to be collected at the end of the day and returned the next morning. We can provide king-size or twin en suite accommodation and we have one single room as well. Our breakfasts are generous and we serve local organic ingredients and free-range eggs when they're available. Our garden is a delight to laze in and read a book or the Sunday papers. There's a large, elm-panelled living room with an inglenook fireplace and log burner, and a separate breakfast room with an open fire on chilly days. If you want TV we have it in the bedrooms and there's free internet use as well. If it's too wet to go out, you can stay indoors and doze on a sofa. We can advise you on local walks of varying lengths and difficulty, and we especially welcome walkers, horse-riders and cyclists. We have secure storage for bikes and there's safe grazing just down the lane for horse riders. Collection from nearby railway stations such as Ludlow, Craven Arms and Bucknell - people and bikes - can be arranged. There are pubs with good food a few minutes drive away although we will sometimes provide evening meals for those who arrive by foot, bike or horse, or we can arrange transport to a pub. We're not a hotel, so we're not licensed, but you can bring your own wine and beer.

Well House B and B is set in the tiny hamlet of Chapel Lawn in the secluded Redlake Valley within the South Shropshire Hills, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This is an ideal spot for anyone wanting a bed and breakfast weekend with peace and tranquillity. The walks and views are superb; the pace of life is slow; people are friendly; the pubs and inns and beer are great. It’s the England we all think we remember that never really existed - except here, where it's not changed much.
Well House is pleased to welcome people with disabilities and when taking a booking we will ask if guests have any special requirements.
Ambulatory Difficulties:
Well House is an old stone farmhouse, and therefore presents challenges to guests with mobility difficulties because of the stone steps from the drive to the path, and because of the nature of the staircase. Furthermore, in our Oak Bedroom there are steps down to the en-site bathroom and, from our single room, a step back up to the landing. We point this out on our website, not as a deterrent, but simply to provide a realistic picture of what guests will encounter. Despite these features, if a guest with mobility difficulties wishes to stay, we will do all we can to make this possible, although we will advise against wheel chair users staying with us as they would not be able to access the bedrooms. Measures we can and have taken to ease access include:
* lending a helping hand to mount steps and stair, including carrying luggage
* suggesting the use of the Pine Bedroom which has flat access to its en-suite bathroom
* if the Oak Room’s bathroom is not in use, suggesting the use of its shower with a low step
* provision of a high-seated chair in a bedroom or sitting room
* use of our own downstairs toilet during breakfast time to preclude having to climb stairs again
* provision of a non-slip bath/shower mat
* night-lights on staircase and landing
Visual Disabilities:
We have successfully entertained a totally blind guest and we welcome guide dogs which
can sleep in a guest’s bedroom on a blanket or in their bathroom and also have the run of
the garden when necessary. We can make a TV satellite receiver with voice-over facility
available, and we can provide bright, angled-lights to assist reading. We have powerful,
hand-held torches which can be placed at a bed-side. The breakfast menu is in large print
and can be made larger, as can any document we provide.
Allergies and food intolerances:
* when taking a booking we always ask if guests have any special dietary requirements as we can provide meat-free breakfasts and gluten free bread
* we advise guests that we have a cat and for those who are allergic to cats, but wish to stay, we advise the use of our Oak Bedroom as it has a board rather than carpeted floor
