Our B&B in Romsey is only 10 minutes from the small market town of Romsey, which is situated on the banks of the river Test. Romsey Abbey dates back to Norman times, and has a fascinating history. Romsey is also the home of Broadlands, and the Mountbatten family open the house & grounds to the public in July and August. Every July the town plays host to an annual music & dance festival, called The Beggars Fair and also to an evening carnival later in the month. The town is very picturesque and has some nice small shops to browse.

There is a network of footpaths that can be accessed from just outside the property, leading to local villages and pub/restaurants. Dunwood Manor 18 hole golf course is within walking distance and Paultons golf course is just a short drive away.

Mottisfont Abbey, about 10 minutes away, is a beautiful National Trust property on the banks of the river Test, with a world famous rose collection - a must to see in June. There are lovely riverside and country walks around the Abbey and local area, and you can picnic in the grounds and watch the swans glide by.

The Sir Harold Hillier Gardens, also about 10 minutes away, has an internationally renowned collection of hardy trees and shrubs, and has something to see in all seasons. Click here for more information.

The New Forest, again only 10 minutes from our door, boasts pretty villages, miles of open countryside in which the famous New Forest ponies roam, and access to many lovely beaches and stretches of river. At Beaulieu, home of Lord Montague, you will find a stately home and a very interesting motor museum, and villages such as Lyndhurst, Bucklers hard and Burley are well worth a visit. From Lymington, a coastal town in the New Forest, you can catch a ferry to the beautiful Isle of Wight for the day.

The ancient city of Salisbury is about 20 minutes from our door, where you will find the Cathedral, which boasts Britain's tallest spire, the worlds best preserved Magna Carta and Europe's oldest working clock. The Cathedral is situated in a medieval close, surrounded by superb old houses.

Both the ancient city of Winchester and the more modern city of Southampton are within about 25 minutes drive.

Stonehenge, one of the most famous prehistoric sites in the world, is about 8 miles north of Salisbury. Stonehenge was built around 5000 years ago and is host to the summer solstice on the first day of summer, 21st June.
