An Taigh Fiodh (the Wooden House) is a self-catering apartment on the island of Grimsay in the Outer Hebrides/Western Isles. The luxurious, fully-equipped accommodation is on two floors and occupies one end of an original, architect-designed house (built 2006) with beautiful views overlooking the bay

The apartment comprises:

1 bedroom, double or twin, located in the upstairs gallery. Bed/beds have a remote control facility for comfort to sit up and read or to put your feet up after a tiring day walking. The bedroom window looks out across the loch, with Benbecula in the distance.

A bathroom containing power shower, heated towel rail and plenty of storage.
An elegant and modern kitchen facility, comprising a 2-ring ceramic hob, fridge with freezer compartment, sink and microwave - everything to make your stay easy/comfortable and enjoyable. The kitchen unit can be closed after use and forgotten about.

A dining table (seats 2) is set by the window overlooking the bay.

Facilities

All bed linen and towels are provided and changed weekly.

There is a television supplying Freeview, i.e. all free TV and radio channels, including News 24.

A selection of games, travel guides and maps is provided, together with books on local places of interest, birds, wildlife, flora and fauna and fishing.

There will be a Wi-Fi facility as soon as it becomes available for laptop use.

Local area

A wide variety of fish and shellfish can be bought in Kallin. During the summer months, tea, coffee and home baking is available from Kallin School House on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Seven miles south in Balivanich are two supermarkets, a launderette, butcher, bank, post office, travel agent, restaurant, airport, hospital and riding school.

A further five miles south, a library, swimming pool with sauna, tennis courts, fitness suite and games hall are all available at Liniclate Community School.

Taigh Chearsabhagh museum and arts centre in Lochmaddy has two galleries, a museum, seasonal workshops, post office and cafeteria with internet access.

Urachadh Uibhist at Claddach Kirkibost hosts events throughout the summer months such as guided walks for those interested in archaeology, otter spotting, bird watching, peat cutting, thatching, etc., plus evenings of talks, slide shows and sing-songs.

The Kildonan Museum on South Uist has a craft shop and cafe.


Wi-Fi is available locally at Urachadh Uibhist.
