Recently used for the filming of ‘Miss Potter’, a film about Beatrix Potter starring Renee Zellweger, Low Millgillhead is an elegant Georgian house in the small village of Lamplugh. Extensively and sympathetically refurbished in 2007, it provides luxurious self-catering accommodation for groups of up to 10 people. It is set in half an acre of beautiful gardens, with space for summer barbecues and a stream. Lamplugh is the perfect starting place to explore the fells, rivers, lakes and tarns of this beautiful part of the Lake District. There are a variety of walks right from the front door, or Loweswater Lake is just four miles away, with Buttermere and Crummock just a mile or two beyond. In the opposite direction is Ennerdale, with its lake, forest walks and mountain biking, rock climbing (including the challenging Pillar Rock), fishing, pony trekking and paragliding. The village pub (the Lamplugh Tip) is a mile and a half away. For shops, Cockermouth (just 7 miles away) has large supermarkets as well as a wide variety of smaller independent shops, pubs and cafes. The Kirkstile Inn at Loweswater is renowned throughout the Lakes for the quality of its food and ales.
