Salisbury - 18 miles, a bustling old city with good shops and a Cathedral spire that can be seen for miles. Stonehenge - 20 miles visible from the A303 is one of the top UK visited sites. Longleat and Stourhead - 20 mins. The village of Donhead St Andrew, part of which lies on the A30, is in a Designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The heart of this pretty village , with its Church and famous Pub (The Forester) is 1.5 miles from the main road and has the River Nadder running through it. Mereworth House is a few minutes walk from the pub down a quiet dead-end lane that has a water mill at the end and then a network of public footpaths. This area is a haven for walkers with numerous circular walks taking in the varied landscape. Nearby Wardour Woods, easily accessed from the house, lead to Wardour Castle, an English Heritage Monument well worth a visit. Alternatively, the Ox Drove which runs along the high ridge between here and Salisbury gives wonderful views
